Description
Two Japanese woodblock prints by noted sosaku-hanga artist Toshi Yoshida (Japanese, 1911 - 1995). One is "Lidabashi" and the other "From the Ryogoku Bridge". Ca. 1939. Pencil signed by Yoshida. Both show scenes along waterways in Japan. Yoshida's approach in these two works is different from traditional woodblock prints, in his use of a darker palette, more subtle changes in color, and a naturalistic style. Both prints are matted and framed. Not examined out of frame. Excellent condition, good colors. Minor wear on frames. Measurements: 10 1/4" wide by 7 1/4" tall (as matted); 14 1/2" wide by 11 3/4" tall by about 3/4" deep (framed).Provenance: many pieces in this collection were purchased by the collector from Toshi Yoshida himself. Keywords: art, artwork, Asia, Asian, ukiyo-e, ukiyo e, ukiyoe, woodcut, decor, decoration, Hiroshi, Kiso, shin hanga
