Description
Charter signed July 19, 1722, "in the seventh year of the reign of King George over Great Britain, France, and Ireland," between George Randall, merchant of Cerne Abbas, Dorset, and Captain Thomas Thompson of Poole, Dorset, for the transport of goods on the sloop Thomas & Rebecca, between Poole, England and Newfoundland. With signatures, six pence blind stamps, and verso with handsome engraved certificates of the then newly-formed Royal Exchange Assurance and with later (1840s) engravings. Framed sandwiched between glass to allow views of both sides. Offered together with the book, "A History of Poole" by Cecil N. Cullingford, Phillimore & Co., Ltd. pub., 1988. Frame, approx. 24 1/4" x 17 1/2".
