Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey,1877-1963
Impressionist nocturnal scene depicting a full moon reflecting off a dark sea from the snow covered coast. Pancoast studied at Drexel University and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts while working at the Philadelphia Public ledger newspaper, despite not being able to get a job in the art department. He subsequently left to Paris to study for three years with Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian. Upon his return, Morris was hired by the art department of the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, Gloucester Society of Artists, North Shore Art Association, Pennsylvania Academy Society of Artists, Philadelphia Art Alliance, Philadelphia Sketch Club and the Salmagundi Club.
