Near East / Central Asia, Islamic Culture, Medieval Period, ca. 11th to 13th century CE. A beautiful pair of gold and silver alloy pendants (64% gold and 28% silver), both of a tubular capsule shape - hollow with open work filigree. These prayer capsules or amulets, also known as hirz (herz), were worn on chains or cords as necklaces or belt ornaments, protecting and guiding the wearer with paper prayers inside or built into the pendant itself. Neither of these open to insert prayers, however one has a scrolling filigree script that may be a Baraka or "blessing" - to provide protection from illness, enemies, or misfortune. Size: 1.27" L x 0.44" W (3.2 cm x 1.1 cm); gold quality: 64% (equivalent to 15K+); silver quality: 28%; weight: 10.3 grams

Indentations and perforations and tears to filigree areas. Light mineral and earthen deposits. Jump ring findings attached, and these could be made wearable with a chain or cord.
