Central America, Panama, Kuna, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A framed colorful mola textile featuring a double headed creature- perhaps a jaguar, with embroidered whiskers and curvilinear limbs and stylized zoomorphic heads. Using a reverse applique technique, the first layer of cloth is cut to reveal the colored layers below and the stitches are nearly invisible, achieved by using a thread the same color as the cloth and blind stitches - this mola exemplifies this extremely fine technique perfectly!
