FABERGE - ANTIQUE RUSSIAN SILVER and ENAMEL LARGE SERVING SPOON
Eastern Europe, Russia, Imperial Period, St. Petersburg, ca. late 19th century CE. A beautiful gilt silver and enamel cloisonne serving spoon. It has a finial comprised of a geometric cloisonne pattern with a blue, white, and red hues. A twisted handle connects to the deep teardrop shaped bowl. The backside of the bowl is also covered with cloisonne in a scrolling foliate pattern. Nice Faberge item. When you touch and hold a piece of FABERGE sterling you are in contact with something very special coming down to you not only from the era of the czars but of an ancestry far more ancient: for it is typical of all the imperial courts there have ever been.
HALLMARKS: The neck is stamped with three marks: 'AF, 1887 ' with a rectangle, a faint Cyrillic script mark, and '84' in square which indicates the silver content and 'HP'.
'AF' in Cyrillic is for Agathon FABERGE - jeweller, art collector, SON of the famous jewelry master Peter Karl Gustavovich FABERGE - please see information below.
'HP' is for Hiskias Pendin, FABERGE workmaster - please see information below.
LARGE SIZE: 7.43 x 2.25 inches (18.9 x 5.7 cm). Weight: 92 grams.

WORKMASTER: In 1864, Peter Carl FABERGE embarked upon a Grand Tour of Europe. He received tuition from respected goldsmiths in Germany, France and England, attended a course at Schloss 's Commercial College in Paris, and viewed the objects in the galleries of Europe 's leading museums. He returned to St. Petersburg and married Augusta Julia Jacobs. For the following ten years, his father's trusted work master Peter Hiskias Pendin acted as his mentor and tutor. Upon Pendin's death in 1882, Peter Carl took over the business and was joined by his brother Agathon FABERGE.

WIKIPEDIA: Agathon FABERGE - jeweller, art collector, son of the famous jewelry master Peter Karl Gustavovich FABERGE, creator of FABERGE eggs. World's famous philatelist. He was the brother of Aleksandrine Caroline Koschke, Wilhelmine Charlotte Nicolay, Carl FABERGE and Agatha Emilie FABERGE. He joined his father's house of FABERGE in 1892. From 1887 to 1892, he studied at the German Petri-Schule in St. Petersburg and at the commercial branch of the Wiedemann gymnasium. In May 1895, he entered into his father's business at FABERGE. 1900s - 1910s, he led the affairs of the company with his father and brother Evgeny Karlovich. In 1897 he married the daughter of the Riga merchant Lydia Treiberg. Since 1898 - an expert at the Diamond Room of the Winter Palace, an appraiser of the Loan Fund, an appraiser of His Imperial Majesty. Following the results of the exhibition in Paris in 1900 he was awarded a gold medal. Agathon did 't have enough money and was unjustly accused by his father of stealing, after which their relationship ended and Agathon left Russia. In 1916, his father was unjustly accusing Agathon of large embezzlement of the company's money, after which their relationship ended (only after several years, the former employee of the company Otto Bauer admitted that he was the one who took large amount of money). Agathon opened an antique store with his friend and partner in art business A.K. Rudanovsky.
