RIAA Gold 45 "white matte" award for the Beatles (with Billy Preston) track "Get Back", presented to The Beatles. This single was released on April 26, 1969 and just a month later certified Gold by the RIAA on May 19, 1969 for 1 million copies sold.

One of the most famous hits of the Beatles career, it went to #1 in virtually every major music market worldwide and was the first single of the group's career to enter the UK chart at #1. The single was backed with "Don't Let Me Down". The tune was of course most recently featured in the wonderful 2021 documentary series The Beatles: Get Back, directed and produced by Peter Jackson. By 1999 the single was certified 2x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA.

Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold "white matte" single award was made in 1969 and features the great Apple label the group launched in 1968. The award is presented to The Beatles.

It is 54 years old and yet is in VG condition. There is one spot of minor discoloration on the matte on the lower left and some wear on the wood frame as is expected. Also, while all the components of this award appear completely original, there are a few very minor tears to the surface of the record label which logically implies that the metal presentation plate may have come loose at some point causing this, or alternately, the glass was broken. Coupled with the somewhat newer-looking backing paper, it is likely that the award was opened up at some point over the last 50 years to fix it. Since the award does have an original New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker, it is likely that it was reattached to new backing paper after the repair was completed. This is all our analysis since we acquired it this way and we have no way of knowing for certain that this is how this damage occured.

These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
