Description
Vintage Dutch Delft vase marked at the bottom "svpnt/ guelders delft from the 4 rivers / made in Holland" [c. mid-century, 1950s-1960s], blue floral design.
The vase is 7.3/4" [19.7cm] tall; 4.1/4" [10.8cm] across at the top, and 2.3/4" [7cm] at the bottom, no chips, no hairlines, very good / fine condition.
In the beginning of the 17th century Dutch potters were met with Chinese porcelain competition. The effect of the situation was creation of delftware. Potters in Netherlands used the tin-glaze technique to imitate Chinese porcelain.
In the 17th century Delft became a capital of European ceramics production. In 1710 in German Meissen began history of European porcelain, which also started to be produced in Netherlands. In 1840 there was only one delftsware company left - De Porceleyne Fles. Popularity of Dutch delftware returned in the second half of 19th century.
