Description
Nagamitsu is one of the most famous japanese sword smith of WW2. Nagamitsu was the director of Okayama Prison and utilized prison labor to help him produce swords for the war effort, the cutting ability of his swords rank among the best produced by Showa period swordsmith, listed in John Slough's book page 123, 124. The blade is traditional hand, in old polish, no rust, no stain and in excellent condition. The temper line is gunome-choi temper pattern and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada no opening, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. This is a Japanese WWII Naval Landing Force officer's sword in type 44 mountings. The blade is signed Ichihara chiryushi Nagamitsu saku, shinogi-zukuri shape, WWII time period made blade. The scabbard is sand finish lacquered woodscabbard, no dents, no crack, no lacquer loss and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. It measures 27 3/8 inch tip to the guard, 26 1/2 inches cutting edge, 1 1/4 width, 8.5 mm thickness at the notch and 39 inches in mountings.
