Original enameled metal street sign, 27.75 x 6 in., bearing the name ‘Horst-Wessel-Platz’ in raised white lettering on a dark blue background, surrounded by a white border. The sign is slightly convex as such signs usually were, with mounting holes at each corner. Some chipping throughout resulting in oxidation. Most of the text is unscathed, leaving an impressive piece of history intact. HORST WESSEL (1907-1930) was an officer in the Berlin S.A. He was shot in the head by two members of the Communist Party of Germany in 1930 and was quickly made a martyr of the party by Joseph Goebbels.
