German World War I lithograph poster, 19 x 25 in., featuring an evocative scene in which an angel stands over a departed German soldier on the battlefield, titled ‘We ought to lay down our lives for our brothers’. The text at the bottom declares that this poster was created to honor the memory of soldier Adam Burkhardt of Infantry Regiment 213, 2nd Company. Burkhardt fell in battle on May 9, 1918. The printed signature of the artist Emil Doepler appears at the bottom left. Some chipping and creasing throughout.
