Description
A garrison cap owned and worn by a member of the 332nd Infantry Regiment, part of the 83rd Division, but detached to serve on the Italian front during the war. The cap bears two collar discs, one on each side. One shows 'U.S. N.A. 332', the second shows crossed rifles, 'MG', and company assignment 'B'. Soiled within from use, else very good. The 332nd was engaged under Italian control at the Battle of Vittorio Veneto It joined the pursuit of the fleeing Austrians on 29 October 1918 as part of the British XIV Corps of the Italian Tenth Army, the American regiment forming the advance guard of the corps, chasing the Austrians and seizing their positions and supplies until the armistice.
