Description
A GAR or Grand Army of the Republic badge official National Encampment badge for the annual meeting held in 1911, Rochester, New York. The badge is made of four parts attached by metal loops: a bald eagle gripping a sword and scrolls, a representative GAR badge reading ‘Representative 1911’, a GAR badge with the ‘GAR letters in red, white and blue, and a small medal denoting this as the 45th National Encampment held in Rochester, New York. Attached to the verso is a yellow ribbon. Overall 6 in. in length. The GAR would hold these National Encampments every year in a different big city for veterans to attend with their families. Presented in its original 3 x 7.5 in. cardboard box.
