Description
Fantastic original artwork from George Henry Burgess (1831-1905), English American painter, wood engraver and lithographer. This piece is dated by the artist, 1858, and called Camp Above Ft. Yale, Frazer R. (River). B.C. (British Columbia). It seems as though Burgess created a small series of this location as a another view of this same location and same year, in color and was sold in 2009. matte measures 16" x 22", image measures 8.5" x 11" George Burgess was born in England but made the trek to the USA to join the California Gold Rush in 1849 or 1850. He was unsuccessful as a minor and began sketching the gold fields and mining. He also made a living sketching and painting portraits. Art appears to be in excellent condition Matte is toned with bumps and chipping on the corners Appears to have been glued down to the backing, old glue residue appears
