Pastel and graphite on toned artist's paper mounted to stretchered linen
Signed and dated 1882. A Mannerism influenced allegorical representation of Erythrae or Erythrai (later Litri). One of the twelve Ionian cities of Asia Minor, situated 22 km northeast of the port of Cyssus (modern name: Çesme), on a small peninsula stretching into the Bay of Erythrae, at an equal distance from the mountains Mimas and Corycus, and directly opposite the island of Chios.
Sight: 46 x 31 in. (116.8 x 78.7 cm.), frame: 56 x 40 1/2 in. (142.2 x 102.9 cm.)

Condition
Tears to the corners, creases, frame joinery secure but split, metal 'L' brackets to corners of backside.
