David Routzen (Native American, Acoma Pueblo, active late 20th to 21st century), ca. 2001 CE. An impressive hand-built decorative pottery seed jar or olla vessel by Native American artist David Routzen, etched with mesmerizing motifs inspired by traditional Pueblo culture. Surrounding the petite mouth opening is a broad shoulder depicting bear paws, Kokopelli, and a lizard. The rest of the body is entirely covered by dynamic geometric motifs of triangular and interlocking shapes reminiscent of Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi) style pottery. The underside is signed and dated by the artist and marked "Acoma NM." David Routzen is part of a renowned lineage of potters, and he is the great grandson of the famous Acoma potter Lucy M. Lewis (1890/8 to 1992). Size: 11" W x 8" H (27.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
