Signed and dated by Bukowski in silver ink on front free endpaper: "Charles Bukowski/5-26-63". Introduction by John William Corrington. Original hand-bound stiff printed wrappers; in original stiff printed dust-jacket with cork-lined front panel; text leaves printed in letterpress on variously colored and sized paper stocks. Edited by Jon and Louise "Gypsy Lou" Webb. Signed and dated by Charles Bukowski in second issue above his contribution "sick leave": "Charles Bukowski/7-4-67"; inscribed by editor Jon Edgar Webb on front endpaper of third issue: "Help-a little?/Jon W." Profusely illustrated with photographic reproductions and in-text illustrations. Original stiff photographic wrappers, scattered wear and minor creasing, price in top corner of first issue crossed out in pen with MS. "3 00" added; all edges trimmed; text leaves variously toned.

A scarce and complete set of Jon and Louise "Gypsy Lou" Webb's highly influential counter-culture literary magazine The Outsider. Published in only five issues between 1961-69, this short-lived magazine is a showcase of the 60s literary avant-garde, and is particularly remembered for bringing national attention to the work of Los Angeles poet and author Charles Bukowski. Other towering literary and artistic figures of the era are featured, including, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, Kenneth Patchen, d.a. levy, Henry Miller, Allan Kaprow, Dick Higgins, and many more.

A scarce set of three titles from one of Bukowski's earliest publishers.
