Complete set of “Union Playing Cards” with its original box (lid missing), produced by the American Card Co., New York City, circa. 1863. Box retains an original cancelled revenue stamp and bears the ink inscription “J Richardson, Stockbridge VT.”
Orlando J. Richardson (1841-1922) fought with the 16th Vermont during the Civil War and according to his obituary, “fought in the thick of the fight” at the Battle of Gettysburg.
Cards are worn, some more than others, but most are in fair to excellent condition displaying military and patriotic themes. Colors remain vivd.
