Lot of 14 albumen photographs of Italy taken by Giaocchino Altobelli (1814-1879) . The images, all of which are in very good condition for their age, primarily depict Roman ruins and other cultural landmarks, including the Arch of Constantine and the Colosseum. These photos date to the last quarter of the 19th century, a transitional era in Italian photography as the process of producing collodion on glass negatives and albumen printing took hold, both of which allowed for a degree of broad public consumption. Altobelli’s firm shot and produced some of the finest examples made during this important period of Italian photography.
