Item Details

Description

Magnificent antique lacquered or leather cabinet, with gold guilding could be intended to hold and transport tea or liquor, or used as a collectors cabinet. We believe it could Spanish. It is covered in what feels like leather- but could also be lacquer. It is tooled with intricate gilded details throughout the entire piece. The interiors of the two front doors are also elegantly gilded, and at the center of each interior door is a large silver crest that depicts a Pegasus at the very center on one side, and a crowned bird on the other side. Curled around the crests are dragons - the crest on the left hand door is missing a dragon head. The two front doors open to reveal 8 drawers of varying sizes, as well as a smaller hinged door in the center of the cabinet. Each drawer has what could be (sterling) - silver plaques/reliefs with repousse classical or biblical scenes, and the pulls for the drawers are in the shape of a bearded man. The drawers and small interior cabinet are lined with a rich, red damask silk - this could have been added later, likely during the Victorian era. The piece is 20.5 inches tall, 26 inches wide, and 12 inches in depth. The larger interior drawers are 7.5 inches wide, 2.75 inches tall, and 8.5 inches deep. Condition

Some wear on leather, especially the back - see photos there is some peeling. Wear on the two front facing corners of the cabinet. One door has a latch at the bottom and top to keep it closed, but the other door hangs slightly open. Some places have fading to the leather, or cracking/missing leather. Some residue from silver polish.
