Harvey, Clifford A., Before Rosebud was a Sled: Commercial Wood Engraving in America seen through the GramLee Collection of Early American Commercial Wood Engravings, number 12 of 45 copies signed and dated on the colophon, 1998, letterpress printed and bound at the Permutation Press, Morgantown, WV, hardcover, unique image pasted to the front cover (each book has a different cover image), slim folio, illustrated throughout in color, housed in a custom archival slipcase. A rare and innovative book. The author passed away in 2021. The GramLee Collection is owned by West Virginia University Division of Art, and is one of the largest collections of 19th-century American wood engravings in the world today. Harveyís book explores the evolution and art of woodblock engraving in America in the 19th and 20th centuries, including his fine letterpress printing of, and research on, a selection of the GramLee Collectionís wood engravings. Provenance: deaccessioned from a regional institution, but with no stamps, stickers or markings; will include a letter of deaccession from the institution.
