Description
Mollari, Mario (Argentinian, 1930-2010), Man and Woman, 1961, lithograph on wove paper made from the original woodcut (Xylograph/Xilografia), signed and numbered 426/500 in blue ink to the bottom, image 15.75 x 10.5 inches, full sheet 18.75 x 12.75 inches, unframed; a single image from the Espartaco Portfolio published by Ediciones Joraci, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Movimiento Espartaco (translated as the Spartacus Movement) ran from 1959 to 1968 and was named in homage to the Spartacus League, a German labor movement of Marxist origin led by Rosa Luxemburg. It was founded by a young group of Argentinian artists who wanted to mix traditional methods with critical, avant-garde imagery.
