Portraits of leading Renaissance academics, scholars, humanists, doctors, alchemists, herbalists, cartographers, cosmographers, judges, bishops, composers, musicians, historians, poets and theologians, including Dante, Boccaccio, Petrarch, William Camden, Sir Thomas More, Christopher Columbus, Machiavelli, Copernicus, Mercator, Vesalius, Vasari, Leonhart Fuchs, Sebastian Munster, Jean-Jacques Boissard, etc. Most within decorative oval borders ornamented with foliage, animals, insects, etc. Theodor de Bry (1528-1598) was an engraver, goldsmith, editor and publisher, famous for his depictions of early European expeditions to the Americas. Jean-Jacques Boissard (1528-1602) was a French antiquary and Neo-Latin poet.
