Description
Technique: Pencil on Paper
Inscription: Verso inscribed by another person: "Zimmermann Ankunft in Augsburg".
Date: c. 1840
Description: A group of young men in hunter's or wanderer's costumes are welcomed outside the town with great jubilation. The group poses with sweeping gestures, waves their caps and announce their arrival with a blast of horns. In the distance, the silhouette of the city, presumably Augsburg, can be made out. Whether this is a humorous testimony to the artist's own arrival, in which he caricatures the people's enthusiasm in the face of his own person, or whether it is an event of local interest, can no longer be determined.
