Item Details
Description
MALAYSIAN BRONZE LELA SWIVEL GUN CANNON LATE 18TH/ EARLY 19TH CENTURY with multi-stage barrel swelling towards the muzzle, cast with raised mouldings and a pair of lifting-handles formed as dolphins/ monsters, fitted with its original bronze swivel mount (153cm long) Note: The lantaka and lela were types of bronze portable cannon or swivel gun, sometimes mounted on merchant vessels and warships in Maritime Southeast Asia. Lela are similar to a lantaka but longer and had larger bore, usually about 100 –180 cm long. They can be configured as swivel guns, fixed guns, or mounted in a gun carriage and are the equivalent of European falcon and falconet.
