Native American, Midwest to Southeastern United States, Arkansas, Little River Country, Caddo / Mississippian, ca. 1200 to 1400 CE. This is a lovely hand-built pottery bowl displaying an orange hue and incised motifs around the shoulder of the body. The conical vessel rests on a flat base, the walls flare outward to a gently carinated shoulder and a thick, rolled rim. Before the rim is a double scrolling patten on a linear incised ground which is repeated 8 times around the exterior, which is categorized as the Ripley Engraved type of Caddo. The clay material is often referred to as grog, a firesand and clay mixture that helps reduce shrinkage when fired. Size: 11.25" Diameter x 6" H (28.6 cm x 15.2 cm)
