Item Details
Description
Korean War Era Inland U.S. M1 Semi-Automatic Carbine Modified With Infrared M2 Sniper Scope. Serial no. 7000077, .30 carbine caliber, 18-inch Underwood marked barrel dated 4-43  with standard front sight. Parkerized finish. Round Parkerized bolt. High-wood carbine stock with type 3 barrel band and bayonet lug. Winchester marked tang, AMCO marked barrel band. Magazine release marked M. Flip safety. High-wood stock marked W in the sling inlet and with an oval oiler recess and two rivet hand guard modified for accepting the infrared scope. Stock with no visible cartouches. M2 sniper scope mounted to a bar fixed to rear of receiver to just aft of the front band. The top of the scope has a small brass nomenclature plate that is marked; CORPS OF ENGINEERS, U.S. ARMY / SNIPERSCOPE M-2 / BELL AND HOWELL COMPANY CHICAGO / P.O. 88-B-18900-88 / CORNELL DUBILIER ELECTRIC CORP. PLAINFIELD N.J. / P.O. 88-B-18889-91. Checkered plastic pistol grip with switch for activating the infrared light source. Large infrared light source mounted to the underside of the stock via a flat-sided retaining nut. A series of electrical cables and wires connect to the power source which is contained in a black rubberized canvas carrying bag (lacking battery) with integral OD web carrying straps. This uncommon weapon is also accompanied by two original technical manuals, TM 5-9341 Sniperscope M2, June 1945; and TM 5-9342 Operation and Maintenance Instructions for Sniperscope Infrared Set No. 1 20,000 Volts, August, 1951. Additionally included is a rare OD canvas and leather bag used to carry the assembled weapon, extra modified hand guard, extra black rubberized carrying bag for the power source, and extra battery pack of a later type which will require an adaptor. This is the Korean War era version which enabled a standard M1 carbine to be relatively easily modified to accept the infrared scope and light source, thus eliminating the need for a specially manufactured weapon like the T3 carbine. In addition to this uncommon version, we are pleased to offer a Winchester and Inland T3 carbine in this current auction.
Condition: Very good. Retaining 80-85% late Parkerized finish with wear at the muzzle and high spots. Stock with a few shallow dings and dents. The action is crisp and the bore bright. The electrical components and scope have not been tested and may not work, but everything appears complete and in fine condition.
