Description
A large ancient Chinese terracotta tomb figurine. East Han dynasty, 25 to 220 AD, presumably from the area of nowadays Sichuan. Moulded clay sculpture representing a man wearing a robe with a collared neck and a disk-type cap. The shield in his left hand indicates military activity. This kind of pottery fired at low temperature without glaze was popular in China before the invention of porcelain. It was used for creation of funerarary objects that were meant to accompany the deceased to the afterlife. Archaeological Finds And Relics, Collectible Oriental Pottery And Earthenware.
