Description
Vintage Nappy (vegetable bowl) by Red Wing Pottery, Concord shape, hand painted “Lotus Bronze” pattern, c.1940/ 1941.
The square with rounded corners bowl ['Concord' shape] is 2.1/2" [6.3cm] deep; 8.1/2" x 8.1/2" [21.6cm]; no chips, 'antique' looking crackle glaze with some staining under glaze, very good condition.
The Red Wing Stoneware Company was founded in Red Wing, Minnesota in 1877 and closed in 1967. The dinnerware production started in 1935. The hand painted 'Lotus Bronze' design was introduced c.1940/1941. In the Red Wing promo brochure of 1941 is stated:
"Bold! Dramatic! Modern!...The bold, hand painted Lotus design is loved by Moderns, of course, but chosen by women of more subdued tastes too as a striking contrast in traditional settings. Lotus takes ordinary everyday meals out of ordinary..."
