BARBARA LATHAM (1896-1989)Taos Street Scene. Woodcut. 113x172 mm; 4½x6¾ inches, full margins. Edition of 25. Signed in pencil, lower right. 1932.A very good impression. Latham was born in Walpole, Massachusetts and graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York in 1919. She continued to study painting under Andrew Dasburg at the Art Students League in New York. In 1925, Latham relocated to Taos to work as an illustrator and join the burgeoning artist colony. She met fellow artist Howard Cook (19101-1980) and the two married in 1927. They traveled extensively before settling back near Taos in 1938. Latham is best known for her Taos scenes, like the present work, and her illustrations for children's books.
