Hilton Leech.New York, Florida, Connecticut, Montana,1906-1969
Abstract black and white depiction of a somber figure posed with head tilted to the left and eyes closed. Leech studied at the Grand Central Art School under Arshile Gorky and George Pearce Ennis, and later studied lithography at the Art Students League. He often painted wilderness scenes of the West and was commissioned by Ringling Brothers to paint side show performers, however the paintings were lost in a fire. Leech won the American Watercolor Society purchase prize, the Audubon Society of Artists Casein Award, the Morse Medal at the National Academy of Design, the Knickerbocker Artists Medal of Honor and Gold Medal of Honor, the Allied Artists Association, New York.
