A VICTORIAN NEOCLASSICAL 14K YELLOW GOLD AND DIAMONDS LORGNETTE, BACCHUS AND GORGON MASKS, 1870s-1900, the néo-grec influenced repoussé mask of Bacchus backed by leafy scrolling grape tendrils with a crossed thyrsus and crook, reversing to a Gorgon mask backed by berried laurel leaf branches and a sword crossing a flaming torch, each mask mounted with two old European cut diamond inset eyes measuring approximately 1.60mm x 1.20mm, approximate weight .01 carat each, and the mouths each are mounted bezel set old European cut diamonds each measuring approximately 1.89mm x 1.94mm, approximate weight .025 carats each, concealing a spring mechanism opening hinge folded lenses, the shaped handle decorated with an arrow filled quiver and ending as a tendril of roses in repoussé; stamped 14K, total approximate diamond weight: .09 carats, total approximate weight including lenses: 33.5 grams; height: 5 1/4" width: 1 1/4".
