As Confederate as Confederate can be... both sword and scabbard. Single strand iron wire wrap on the grip, unstopped fuller on the blade, crude lapped seam and brass mounts on the scabbard... all the southern bells and whistles. The curvature of the blade is more pronounced than the curve of the scabbard, making the insertion of the blade very difficult for the last eight inches. It is so difficult to withdraw the blade when sheathed that I am confident the two parts did not start life together. They may well have been married during the war as surviving Confederate arms and equipment are frequently found cobbled together or repaired in a make-do fashion. Whoever draws and sheaths this saber needs to be very strong. Scabbard has an iron drag.
