Ca. 660-525 BC. An acient Egyptian New Year's glazed composition flask decorated on one side with a rosette and the other with Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead. The rosette symbolizes the sun and its emergence each day, and the figure of Anubis is meant to represent the afterlife. These beautiful, handcrafted vessels were filled with perfume, oil, or water from the Nile, and often decorated with symbols of rebirth and renewal. These vessels were popular during the Late Period and were gifted on special occasions to welcome in the New Year.
