Description
Oil on canvas. Signed & dated lower left. Dimensions: 20" x 16". A RISD graduate (1934), Leif continued to study her craft under John Frazier, later named RISD President. Leif exhibited widely & won numerous awards in her career, including First prize at the Providence Art Club's 1947 Annual exhibition with "Still Life with Flowers". This work is very similar to the award-winner. Leif evolved to a Modernist style by the 1950s. She built up her canvases with paint & as this work shows, Lief was well known as a colorist. Leif's stilllife paintings were included in a 2017 Newport Art Museum exhibition of that genre. Beautifully framed: 28" xs 24".
