Description
1952, from the edition of 500, inscribed 'EDITION PICASSO' and stamped 'EDITION PICASSO' and 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' on the underside. White earthen ceramic turned round ash-tray with oxidized paraffin decoration and enamel.
diameter: 6 in. (15.2cm)
[Ramie, 172]
Provenance
Collection of Dr. Ellis F. Rubin and Suzanne Borow Rubin.
In largely good condition. Color appears to be a little faded, primarily on body of bird. Scattered groups of pinhole-like punctures, with associated soiling and discoloration, are present to both face and underside of work. There is a small spot of discoloration near back of bird. There are two small chips to body of bird, with associated loss- this includes to body, below beak, and to bottom of body, near tail. There are a few horizontal marks along exterior rim. Evidence of wear is apparent along foot-rim, including residue/dark soiling along interior of foot-rim, below ‘Edition Picasso’ inscription. Scattered soiling throughout – work would benefit from a clean.
