Dance Wand, Tolai People, New Britain, Early to Mid 20th C. Carved axe form with open serrated, red ring encircling a Duk-duk symbol. Duk-duk figures are usually full body costumes worn by men engaged in the dance performances of that secret society. This wand uses black and white pigment, bush fibers and feathers. Size: 34.5'' x 7.5'' x 1'' (88 x 19 x 3 cm).
