DESCRIPTION: Bronze medallion of Napoleon Bonaparte in circular wooden frame. Signed lower right "David." With Letter of Authenticity from Hammer Galleries dated 1941 indicating it was part of the William Randolph Hearst Collection. With accompanying letter from Gimbel Brothers in New York City. David D'Angers (1788-1856) was a sculptor and medalist (Prix de Rome, 1811) who made monumental pieces such the figurative pediment of the Pantheon in Paris and an important series of medallions in the 1830s. MEASUREMENTS: Medallion 6"; 9" overall with frame. CONDITION: Surface wear to frame. MH. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
