GEORGIAN BRITISH PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER,silk on linen, four alphabet and numeral rows segmented by horizontal bands of decorative stitching, signed "Adah Watson Marked this in the 11 year of her / Age 1814" with a row of initials that begins with "RW EW", below with a six-line verse above a field of various pictorial motifs including flowers and birds, lower half including religious imagery with figures featuring "Abel keeping / sheep", "Cain tilling / the ground", and two angels flying above Adam and Eve at the Tree of Life with the serpent, a yard with dogs and deer along the lower center edge, all encompassed by a scrolling vine border with buds. Housed under glass in a modern birdseye maple veneer frame. Reserve.Dated 1814. 17" x 23 1/2" sight, 21" x 27 3/4" OA.

Condition
Very good to fine visual condition with discoloration and a few holes to edges of linen, some thread with light fading and fugitive color, frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
