English 19th Century Sporting Scene, O/C/B. Oil on canvas laid on board. Signed Caffyn in the lower right. Walter Caffyn was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London between 1876 and 1897. Caffyn rarely painted characters in his landscapes but was a good friend of and was known to have collaborated with famous fish portrait artist Henry Leonidas Rolfe. Rolfe used Caffyn to paint in the backgrounds to his fish portraits.
