A Leading Voice of Daily News in the American Old West
An issue of The Tombstone Epitaph, Vol. 2, No. 88, 4pp, 12.75” x 19.75”, Tombstone, April 27, 1881. Archivally rejoined at the spine, with a few additional archival mends throughout; some edge chipping; browning, mostly isolated to margins; else, in very good plus to near fine condition.
Few could find a more recognizable title that documented the rich history and culture of the Old West, and Tombstone is arguably one of its most famous of towns. Could any town be more linked to the romance and lore of the West than this one? This issue contains a wealth of typically Western content, as would be expected, with some fantastic Western-themed advertisements, a few illustrated.
The Tombstone Epitaph is a monthly publication that covers the history and culture of the Old West. Founded in January 1880, it is the oldest continually published newspaper in Arizona. The Epitaph has long been noted for its coverage of the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881, which occurred only six months after the printing of the here-offered issue.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
