Louis Pearson (American, 1925-2005) and Robbie Robbins (American, XX-XXI century). "Beatrice" brass, 1992. Edition 6 of 36. Signed, numbered, and dated on lower end of sculpture. A striking modernist sculpture by San Francisco artist Louis Pearson (1925-2005) in collaboration with architect and sculptor Robbie Robbins. Spectacularly abstract yet organic in form, this curvaceous brass sculpture is mounted upon a square matte black laminate base and rotates a full 360 degrees so that it may be admired from any angle. Please note: Iconic Design Gallery listed Lou Pearson and Robbi Robbins' "Beatrice" for $3800. Size of sculpture: 16.75" at widest point x 28.25" H (42.5 cm x 71.8 cm); 32" H (81.3 cm) on black laminate stand.

Artist Statements: "Louis Pearson was an abstract modern sculptor born to Swedish immigrants residing in Wallace, Idaho, and worked in the Bay Area (San Francisco, CA) primarily in steel, concrete and earthen materials. As a child, he learned from his family carpentry skills and later worked as a builder while studying commercial art at night school. His daughter, Hannah, said that in the 1940s, her father moved to the Bay Area and began designing and building terraced retaining walls -- ribbons of curvy concrete that created pockets for planting. He built 600 to 700 of the undulating walls, and hundreds of them are still believed to be standing around the Bay Area. His work with curving forms and functional aesthetics led to a career in sculpting stainless steel and bronze. His larger metal pieces feature flowing shapes and shining surfaces and are installed in outdoor settings across the nation. Examples of his sculptures in San Francisco can be seen in the lobby of the California Pacific Medical Center and outside the Broadmoor Hotel. As an artist, Mr. Pearson's big break came in 1965 when Fred Maxwell, owner of San Francisco's prestigious Maxwell Galleries, became his benefactor. His work has been collected by art aficionados, including actor Eddie Murphy, bandleader Artie Shaw, and television producer David Wolper." (Credit: askART).
