Biography
An Impressionist, Hayley Lever was born in Adelaide, Australia in 1876. In the late 1890’s Lever left Australia for England where he joined an art colony in Cornwall, England. Moving to London, where he studied art. His early skill sets as a young, talented artist were readily noticeable as the he started selling various seascapes.
His paintings were further noticed in Europe and in 1911, Lever went to New York where he exhibited his works. From 1919 to 1931, Lever painted at his studio in Gloucester, Massachusetts. In the interim, he both painted and taught art at the Art Students League in New York. He is considered to be one of America’s most noted American artist. Lever died in 1958 in Mt. Vernon, New York.
