Life-size portrait of lady (probably Mrs. Lazar Raditz as likeness resembles a portrait of her painted by her husband and in the Reading Public Museum, Reading, PA) elegantly dressed in long gown with one shoulder strap, holding a matching stole in her right hand and standing on a checker patterned floor; signed and dated lower right "Lazar Raditz 1932"; 43"W, 88 1/4"H; craquelure with scattered losses, overpainting, paint drip lower right side----Lazar Raditz was a well-known portrait artist and teacher who painted some of the most influential people of his era including members of the Rockefeller and DuPont families, Madam Chiang-Kai-Shek and many philanthropists, judges and dignitaries. He lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for many years and also had residences in NYC; Bristol, Rhode Island; and Spartanburg, South Carolina. His art training included the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with William Merritt Chase and Edmund Tarbell. He was an art teacher at the Philadelphia Sketch Club and the Salmagundi Club. Raditz was born in Russia in 1887 and died in Spartanburg, SC, in 1956.
