KING, B. B. (b. 1925-2015). Signed hat for WDIA radio. Memphis: WDIA, n.d., ca. 1990s. Red and black baseball hat with embroidered WDIA logo. Signed in black pen by B. B. King, Rufus Thomas (b. 1917-2001), legendary DJ Ford Nelson, and another signature (possibly DJ Martha Jean “The Queen” Steinberg, (b. 1930-2000) – she was one of the first female DJs in the U. S.). Some wrinkling. Unworn. Near fine. WDIA is the first radio station in the United States to programming devoted to African Americans. They helped launch the careers of many performers, including King and Thomas. Signed in the presence of the consignor. Provenance: The Bo Overlock Collection.
