A group of five Chinese famille rose scholar's items
signed Liu Xiren (Chinese, 1906-1967), Republic period
Comprising a brush washer; a water coupe; a brush pot; a small vase; and an ink box with textile-covered stand. Each piece featuring a deity from Chinese folklore with inscription and one seal, the undersides with signature. (5).

Provenance: Estate of Yip Hon (1904-1997). Nicknamed Kwai Wong (translated as Ghost King), Yip Hon was a gambling tycoon in South China. He a amassed great wealth in the casinos there, through his technique of listening dice, eventually opening his own casino.
