Large hand-carved stone with red striations. Modeled as an upright Native American woman braiding her hair.
Doug Hyde is a prominent sculptor of Nez Perce, Assiniboine, and Chippewa descent. Hyde is influenced by the lore of his ancestry and is also a Viet Nam veteran. Due to his descent and war experience, he was selected to create a large monument dedicated to the Code Talkers, Navajo soldiers who during World War II who used their language as military code. D. Hyde incised to woman's skirt on bottom right. This item has a rotating base included.
