Description
Chinese Blue and Red Porcelain Jardinière, modern, is decorated with images from the Five Oxen handscroll, painted by Han Huang (723-787), in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Beijing. Portraits of the animals, are depicted in various poses, including a frontal rendering. As typical of Tang Dynasty painting, the oxen are set against a blank background. They are painted with underglaze cobalt blue and copper red. Some red enamel is applied over the glaze. Six character Qing mark Inscribed on base.
