Item Details
Description
Extinct Occidentalis Bison Skull found in SW Iowa. Bison occidentalis is an extinct species of bison that lived in North America, in continental Eurasia and the Japanese archipelago from about 11,700 to 5,000 years ago, spanning the end of the Pleistocene to the mid-Holocene. This specimen was found washed out in a river where it cut in to an ancient lake bed in Iowa. It measures 26 3/4 inches from tip end to tip end. Has a little restoration on the horn tips. When these are found the rivers often incur some wear to exposed areas as the rest of the fossil washes out which is what happened on this specimen. Ex Jeff Gower Collection
