Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A miniature votive amphora offering carved from a mottled black stone with brown inclusions. It has a square footed base, an octagonal body, a four-sided neck base, and a flared teardrop-shaped rim with a petite pinched spout. Each of the four larger faceted sides of the body have an interior dot-form outline, and the smaller sides are unadorned. This would have been left at the foot of an altar or inside of a shrine as a personal offering to the gods, and is a beautiful example of Roman stonework! Size: 1.25" H (3.2 cm).
Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003; ex-old French collection, Paris, France, acquired 1977 to 1987
